Keep an Eye on Your Internet Cloud

Have you ever Googled whatever name you use online, just for the heck of it?  What am I saying, of course you have!  Everyone has probably done that, at least once, and no doubt, many of us are surprised at the results that come up.  I’m not talking about the one or more individuals who pop up, but have absolutely nothing to do with you.  Search engines often spit out all kinds of strange results, other than people who possibly share the same or similar name as you.  Depending on what your name is, and how it is spelled, you’re subject to get any number of unrelated search results.  But what about the pages that come up, that do actually pertain to you; are they predictable, or do the search results surprise you?  Some of those surprising results are the main reason that you need to keep an eye on your internet cloud.

Your Internet Cloud

By now, everyone has heard about our internet “clouds”, and how they contain all our online activities.  Well let me just say that they most certainly exist, and people should stop taking that fact for granted.  We may be of the opinion that our lives are an open book, and we have nothing to hide.  But even if this is true, outdated information in our cloud can sometimes be counterproductive to our current activities.  Clearly, this is of the utmost importance if you’re in business, but what about on a personal level?  Does it matter what your cloud says about you, if you’re not concerned about your professional or business image?  It should!

Check Your Online Presence

Nowadays, all anyone has to do if they want to know about a person is check out the online presence that you have managed to establish, both knowingly and unknowingly.  A few simple pecks on the keyboard, and someone can darn near learn you whole history.  This can be true about perspective employers, landlords, and even potential love interests.  You may not realize it now, but there might be some things on your cloud that relate to the past, and you’d rather not have them visible.  Whether or not you can find a way to eliminate unwanted entries is a whole other subject, but for now, the least you can do is find out what’s out there.  So, what’s in your cloud?
